This article presents the synthesis of a naphthalene-based macrocycle with anionic carboxylato groups on its rims, and investigates its complexation with cationic guests in aqueous media. The macrocycle exhibits strong binding to the guests in a molecular clip model, with association constants ranging from 10^6 to 10^7 M-1.
Reported here is the synthesis of a naphthalene-based macrocycle bearing anionic carboxylato groups on the rims along with its complexation with cationic guests in aqueous media. The macrocycle could strongly bind guests in a molecular clip model with association constants of 10(6)-10(7) M-1.
