Insulin-like Peptides of the Western Flower Thrips Frankliniella occidentalis and Their Mediation of Immature Development

Chul-Young Kim et al.

Summary: This study identified two insulin-like peptide (ILP) genes (Fo-ILP1 and Fo-ILP2) in the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, and investigated their expression profiles. The expressions of these two ILP genes were dependent on feeding activity, and starvation treatment greatly reduced their expression levels. RNA interference of these ILP genes had adverse effects on the immature development of the thrips. Additionally, different host plants caused variation in ILP gene expression levels.

Application of Transcriptome Analysis to Understand the Adverse Effects of Hypotonic Stress on Different Development Stages in the Giant Freshwater Prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii Post-Larvae

Bo Liu et al.

Summary: This study explored the impact of low-salinity stress on the development stages of M. rosenbergii post-larvae through transcriptome analysis and antioxidant parameters detection. The results showed that hypotonic stress caused oxidative damage and immune system dysregulation in post-larvae. However, as development progressed, the adaptability of post-larvae to hypotonic stress gradually increased and reached a new homeostasis through the RAS signaling pathway.

Lifespan prolonging mechanisms and insulin upregulation without fat accumulation in long-lived reproductives of a higher termite

Sarah Seite et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the long lifespan of kings and queens in eusocial termites is associated with gene expression differences that reduce aging-related processes and enhance DNA damage repair and mitochondrial functions. Additionally, the downregulation of antioxidant gene expression and decrease in peroxidability of membranes contribute to the longevity. Surprisingly, an upregulation of components of the IIS pathway in fat bodies of reproductives, including insulin-like peptide Ilp9, does not lead to excessive fat storage in queens, suggesting a complex mechanism in maintaining their fertility.

Summary: This study found that insulin-like peptide (ILP) in Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, regulates hemolymph glucose stability by regulating the expression of glucose metabolism genes, playing a conserved role similar to insulin in vertebrates.

Effects of high fat in the diet on growth, antioxidant, immunity and fat deposition of Macrobrachium rosenbergii post-larvae

Yunke Liu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of high-fat diet on the growth, antioxidant capacity, immunity, and liver fat accumulation of Macrobrachium rosenbergii post-larvae. The results showed that high-fat diet induced oxidative stress, inhibited growth performance, altered antioxidant capacity, caused hepatic fat deposition, and affected the immune system of the post-larvae.

Lipid metabolism changes in clam Meretrix petechialis in response to Vibrio infection and the identification of Vibrio-resistance markers

Rina Su et al.

Summary: In the clam Meretrix petechialis, Vibrio infection led to changes in lipid metabolism, including alterations in triglyceride and free fatty acid levels, as well as regulation of triglyceride synthesis, fatty acid de novo synthesis, and fatty acid β-oxidation activities. Analysis of dynamic transcriptome data revealed significant metabolic changes in carbohydrates, lipids, and amino acids in response to Vibrio infection. Key genes related to lipid metabolism showed differences in expression between resistant and susceptible clams, suggesting potential biomarkers for predicting Vibrio resistance. These findings suggest a link between energy metabolism changes and mass mortality induced by bacterial infection in clams.
