Effect of Different Fiber Sources as Additives to Wet Food for Beagle Dogs on Diet Acceptance, Digestibility, and Fecal Quality

Amr Abd El-Wahab et al.

Summary: Obesity in dogs can negatively impact their health and welfare. This study investigated the effects of different fiber sources on palatability, digestibility, and fecal quality in dogs. The results showed that all fiber supplements reduced energy intake without affecting palatability. Fecal quality was not negatively affected by the fiber supplements, only wet fecal output was increased. Therefore, this study suggests that alternative fiber sources like granulated cellulose or lignocellulose can be used without limitations.

Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Peptides Derived from Food Proteins

Guadalupe Lopez-Garcia et al.

Summary: The demand for food proteins has increased due to degenerative illnesses associated with free radicals and drug side effects, leading researchers to suggest diets rich in bioactive compounds like antioxidant and antimicrobial peptides. These peptides can promote health, reduce antibiotic consumption, and neutralize reactive oxygen species generated by antibiotics and external stress.

Antibacterial properties of Apis dorsata honey against some bacterial pathogens

Ghulam Mustafa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antibacterial potential of honey produced by A. dorsata against four pathogenic bacterial species at different concentrations. The results showed that the honey exhibited the strongest antimicrobial action against E. coli at 100% concentration, while the weakest antibacterial action was observed against E. faecalis. These findings contribute to the use of honey as an alternative medicine for treating complications caused by microbial pathogens.

Gallic Acid Alleviates Gut Dysfunction and Boosts Immune and Antioxidant Activities in Puppies Under Environmental Stress Based on Microbiome-Metabolomics Analysis

Kang Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that dietary supplementation of gallic acid (GA) can alleviate the diarrhea rate of stressed puppies and reduce the levels of cortisol and HSP-70 after transportation. Additionally, GA can alleviate oxidative stress and inflammatory response caused by environmental stressors. Puppies fed GA also showed favorable changes in gut microbiota composition after transportation, which may support gut and host health.

Chemical composition and biological activities of whole and dehulled hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) seeds

Jose Ignacio Alonso-Esteban et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the chemical composition of different varieties of whole hemp seeds and commercial dehulled hemp seeds, as well as evaluate their phenolic profiles and properties. The results showed that whole hemp seeds contain more fiber, while dehulled hemp seeds contain more fat and protein. Additionally, whole hemp seed extracts displayed better antioxidant activity compared to dehulled hemp seed extracts.

The Importance of Food Processing and Eating Behavior in Promoting Healthy and Sustainable Diets

Ciaran G. Forde et al.

Summary: Processed foods can have negative health effects due to vitamin destruction, formation of toxins, and excessive intake of salt, sugar, and fat. Additionally, many modern food formulations have poor nutritional quality and higher energy density. Despite this, food processing and formulation still provide an opportunity to create healthier foods.

Hemp Seed Cake as a Novel Ingredient for Dog's Diet

Alessandro Vastolo et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of hempseed cake in dogs' nutrition, comparing the effects of two lipid sources: swine tallow (T-diet) and hempseed cake (H-diet). The H-diet had a higher concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to T-diet, but also a higher peroxidation index. After 30 days, the H-group showed a significant reduction in liver and renal markers and cholesterol, indicating a healthier fatty acid profile.

Apparent total tract nutrient digestibility and metabolizable energy estimation in commercial fresh and extruded dry kibble dog foods

Jirayu Tanprasertsuk et al.

Summary: This preliminary study found that fresh diets outperformed dry kibble diets in terms of nutrient digestibility, metabolizable energy, and fecal characteristics for dogs. However, different factors affected the digestibility and energy estimation of each type of fresh diet, suggesting the need for standardized assessment methods for commercial and homemade fresh dog foods.
