The assessment of sarcopenia and the frailty phenotype in the outpatient care of older people: implementation and typical values obtained from the Newcastle SarcScreen project

R. M. Dodds et al.

Summary: This study successfully implemented the Newcastle SarcScreen as part of outpatient care for older people. The assessment revealed a high prevalence of probable sarcopenia and the frailty phenotype in all age groups.

Comparison between EWGSOP1 and EWGSOP2 criteria and modelling of diagnostic algorithm for sarcopenic obesity in over 70 years old patients

Tereza Vagnerova et al.

Summary: This study compares the performance of diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia (EWGSOP1 and EWGSOP2) and develops a more precise algorithm for detecting sarcopenic obesity (SO). The results suggest that EWGSOP1 criteria have higher sensitivity than EWGSOP2 in identifying patients with sarcopenia and SO. The proposed diagnostic algorithm model can increase the sensitivity of SO diagnosis and is simple to implement in clinical practice. Early detection of sarcopenia and SO using simple methods can improve therapy and quality of life for older adults.

Reliability and Concurrent Validity of the SARC-F and Its Modified Versions: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Stefanie N. Voelker et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the reliability and concurrent validity of SARC-F in identifying sarcopenia, finding that it is not optimal for sarcopenia screening due to its low to moderate sensitivity and moderate to high specificity. It is recommended to directly apply the diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia instead. The study included approximately 21,855 participants from varied populations.
