Comparison of eight methods of Weibull distribution for determining the best-fit distribution parameters with wind data measured from the met-mast

Bulent Yaniktepe et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the wind measurement data in Osmaniye, Turkey to determine the wind characteristics and wind energy potential of the region. The suitability of the two-parameter Weibull distribution model is evaluated, and it was found that the modified maximum likelihood method is the most reliable. The graphical method performs the worst in comparison.

Modeling predictive suitability to identify the potential of wind and solar energy as a driver of sustainable development in the Red Sea state, Sudan

Youssef Kassem et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the potential and economic validity of wind and solar energy in 17 selected locations in the Red Sea state, Sudan. The results showed that vertical axis wind turbines are a good solution for electricity generation in these locations. Additionally, the study found that the areas are suitable for installing photovoltaic systems due to high solar radiation. The use of small-scale renewable energy systems can help reduce electricity bills, dependency on fossil fuels, the effect of global warming, and enhance sustainable technological development in the country.

Wind and wind power characteristics of the eastern and southern coastal and northern inland regions, South Africa

Shafiqur Rehman et al.

Summary: The study aims to understand the fluctuating nature of wind speed characteristics on different time scales and to find the long-term annual trends of wind speed at different locations in South Africa. Results show that wind speed increases with increasing latitudes at coastal sites in South Africa, while the reverse trend is observed at inland locations. The energy pattern factor values at different sites reflect their wind power potential.

Evaluation of wind power generation projects to reduce air pollution using multi-criteria decision-making methods in Saudi Arabia

Mubarak Almutairi et al.

Summary: Saudi Arabia aims to increase the share of renewable energies in its power generation to 20% by 2030 through the national development program called the Saudi Vision 2030. This research focuses on the possibility of developing wind farms in the wind-rich Al-Jawf area. The study analyzes the environmental, economic, and technical aspects of wind energy and uses multi-criteria decision-making approaches to determine the most suitable locations for wind farms based on eight factors. The results show that the city of Al-Qurrayyat is the most suitable site, with the potential to produce 2357 MWh/year of electricity, reduce CO2 emissions by 1124.15 tons/year, and achieve a payback period of 8.1 years.

Sina Jahromi et al.

Summary: This study developed a numerical model to evaluate the potential of using horizontal axis wind turbines as a source of clean energy. A multicriteria analysis was conducted, taking into account energy, exergy, economic, and environmental factors. The study found that different climate conditions in various cities can impact the results in terms of energy, exergy, and environmental aspects. Melbourne performed the best in terms of energy analysis and cost efficiency, Harare had the highest exergy efficiency, and Shiraz had the lowest carbon emissions.
