Microstructure and mechanical properties of multi-scale ?-Fe reinforced Cu-Fe composite produced by vacuum suction casting

Yanjun Ding et al.

Summary: Cu-10Fe composites were produced by vacuum suction casting and traditional vacuum mold casting, and the evolution of their microstructure and properties during cold rolling and aging processes was analyzed. The suction-casted composite exhibited improved mechanical properties compared to the traditional mold-casted composite, with a microhardness of 146 HV, tensile strength of 526 MPa, and elongation of 23.7%. The higher softening temperature of the suction-casted composite (520 degrees C) was attributed to the refinement of the Cu matrix and the formation of multi-scale alpha-Fe particles through solute trapping during vacuum suction casting. The yield strength of the composites was mainly influenced by Orowan strengthening, refinement strengthening, and dislocations strengthening, contributing 31.1%, 25.8%, and 24.1%, respectively.

Influence of minor Ag addition on the microstructure and properties of powder metallurgy Cu-10 wt% Fe alloy

Ping Zhang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the influence of minor Ag addition on the microstructure and properties of powder metallurgy Cu-10Fe alloy. The results show that minor Ag addition leads to a finer and more homogeneous distribution of Fe phase in Cu-10Fe-0.5Ag alloy. The improved microstructure of Cu-10Fe-0.5Ag alloy is attributed to the increased vacancy density in the Cu lattice and the reduced interface energy of Cu/Fe by Ag addition, resulting in an increased nucleation rate for the Fe phase. This microstructure is also beneficial for enhancing both the electrical conductivity and mechanical performance of the Cu-Fe-Ag alloy.

Grain refinement and mechanical properties enhancement of Cu-10 wt%Fe alloys via Zr addition

Lang Ren et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of Zr can refine the grain structure and improve mechanical properties in Cu-Fe alloys. This is because Zr forms ZrFe2 compound as nucleation substrate during solidification and additional precipitation of Cu4Zr and ZrFe2 occurs during aging process.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of gas metal arc welded CoCrFeMnNi joints using a 410 stainless steel filler metal

Jiajia Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of gas metal arc welding of high entropy alloys using stainless steel as filler wire. While the addition of filler material did not increase the hardness of the fusion zone, it improved the yield and tensile strengths of the joint. This research provides a basis for promoting the application of gas metal arc welding of high entropy alloys for industrial use.

A multiphase strengthened Cu-Nb-Si alloy with high strength and high conductivity

Weiyang Wang et al.

Summary: A trade-off exists between high strength and high electrical conductivity in copper-based alloys. The study fabricated Cu-3.65 wt%Nb (CN) and Cu-3.48 wt%Nb-0.11 wt%Si (CNS) alloys and found that the precipitation of Nb and Nb3Si during aging treatment contributed to the high electrical conductivity of CNS alloy, while the tip of Nb3Si easily formed stress concentration leading to crack and failure. Thermal-mechanical treatment resulted in CN and CNS alloys with high strength, high electrical conductivity, and good elongation rates.

Effect of Mg addition on Fe phase morphology, distribution and aging kinetics of Cu-6.5Fe alloy

Dawei Yuan et al.

Summary: The addition of Mg significantly improved the mechanical properties of the Cu-6.5Fe alloy while slightly reducing its conductivity. Observations and testing of the Cu-6.5Fe-0.3Mg alloy showed that the addition of Mg refined the Fe phase, inhibited dendrite segregation, promoted precipitation of the Fe phase, and effectively inhibited recrystallization of the Cu matrix.
