The impact of intelligent manufacturing on industrial green total factor productivity and its multiple mechanisms

Summary: Intelligent manufacturing, as a combination of artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing technology, brings innovation to the manufacturing mode and supports the green development of industries. By establishing a theoretical framework and analyzing panel data from 30 provinces in China, this study examines the economic effects and mechanisms of intelligent manufacturing, using industrial robot density as a measure. The results reveal a positive impact of intelligent manufacturing on industrial green total factor productivity, and the panel quantile regression model suggests an increasing marginal effect. Human capital, green technology innovation, and the agglomeration of producer service industry are the mechanisms through which intelligent manufacturing improves industrial green total factor productivity. The study also identifies regional heterogeneity, with stronger effects observed in regions implementing carbon emissions trading and industrial green transformation development policies. To harness the technological dividends and empower sustainable industrial development, the study recommends accelerating the integration of artificial intelligence and manufacturing technology to enhance industrial intelligence and enable green development.

Impact of population agglomeration in big cities on carbon emissions

Summary: This study examined the influencing mechanism of population agglomeration in large cities on carbon emissions, including technological innovation, industrial structure, and transportation effects. Additionally, the study aimed to explore the nonlinear impact of population agglomeration on carbon emissions. Panel data from 207 big cities with a population of over 1 million permanent residents were used to investigate the relationship between population agglomeration and carbon emissions. The findings revealed that population agglomeration in big cities significantly increased urban carbon emissions. Mechanism analysis showed that population agglomeration influenced carbon emissions through the channels of industrial structure and transportation effects. Technological innovation had a reducing effect on carbon emissions but did not fully offset the growth caused by industrial structure and transportation effects. Nonlinear estimation results indicated that the impact of population agglomeration on carbon emissions varied among big cities with different population levels.
