Multidrug resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae reservoir and their capsular resistance genes in cow farms of district Peshawar, Pakistan

Saddam Saddam et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the occurrence of Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae and its capsular resistance genes in cow farms in district Peshawar, Pakistan. Out of 700 milk samples from symptomatic mastitic cows, 180 (25.7%) were found to be infected with K. pneumoniae, with 80 (44.4%) of them being MDR strains. The analysis also revealed high resistance to Vancomycin (95%) and high sensitivity to Ceftazidime (80%). The presence of MDR K. pneumoniae combined with capsular genes may pose a potential threat to dairy farm animals and humans, emphasizing the importance of hygienic practices in livestock management.

Prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae and Congenetic Raoultella Isolates from captive giant pandas

Yan Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Raoultella strains isolated from captive giant pandas. Fecal samples were collected from 128 giant pandas and microbial strains were tested for drug susceptibility and gene detection. The results showed high antibiotic resistance rates and multidrug-resistant strains, including the first reported multidrug-resistant R. ornithinolytica strain in captive giant pandas. Various resistance and virulence genes were detected, indicating potential risks to the pandas and the keepers. Regular monitoring of antibiotic resistance and virulence genes in Klebsiella and Raoultella is recommended for panda conservation.

Klebsiella pneumoniae Biofilms and Their Role in Disease Pathogenesis

Maria Eduarda Souza Guerra et al.

Summary: The ability to form biofilms is crucial for the virulence of Klebsiella pneumoniae, and biofilms play a significant role in bacterial infections. This review discusses the characteristics of K. pneumoniae biofilms, factors influencing their development, and their contribution to infections. It also explores different model systems used to study biofilm formation in this species. The establishment and maintenance of biofilms in K. pneumoniae are influenced by numerous factors, highlighting the importance of this mechanism for bacterial fitness. Some of these factors could be utilized in future vaccines. However, more in vivo models are needed to evaluate the impact of biofilm development on disease pathogenesis.

The human gut serves as a reservoir of hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae

Jing Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the colonization of hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp) in the healthy population and its relationship with clinically important strains. The results showed that the human gut may serve as a reservoir of hvKp and that hvKp in the gut can play a role in infection of other body parts, highlighting the importance of understanding the transmission and controlling the infection of hvKp.
