On the stability of satellites at unstable libration points of sun-planet-moon systems

Johannes Reiff et al.

Summary: This article explores the stability of libration points in a sun-planet system and the orbit of satellites within it using transition state theory. It is found that satellites can remain on specific trajectories near libration point L2 with stability properties.

The nature of reactive and non-reactive trajectories for a three dimensional Caldera potential energy surface

M. Katsanikas et al.

Summary: For the first time, we utilized the method of periodic orbit dividing surfaces (PODS) in a non-integrable Hamiltonian system with three degrees of freedom. The structure of these four-dimensional objects in a five-dimensional phase space was studied. This method allowed us to identify reactive and non-reactive trajectories on a three-dimensional potential energy surface. We identified four distinct types of trajectory behavior, with two types only occurring in the three-dimensional surface, attributed to homoclinic intersections. Using the method of Lagrangian descriptors, we analyzed these homoclinic intersections. Finally, we detected and described the phenomenon of dynamical matching on the three-dimensional potential energy surface, which is crucial for understanding organic molecule reaction dynamics.

The Generalization of the Periodic Orbit Dividing Surface for Hamiltonian Systems with Three or More Degrees of Freedom - II

Matthaios Katsanikas et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new method for constructing dividing surfaces in Hamiltonian systems, which is easier to implement and has less strict conditions compared to previous methods. By applying this method to a benchmark example, we demonstrate its effectiveness in helping us understand the structure of dividing surfaces more comprehensively.

The influence of a pitchfork bifurcation of the critical points of a symmetric caldera potential energy surface on dynamical matching

Y. Geng et al.

Summary: The paper demonstrates that bifurcations of critical points of a caldera potential energy surface can disrupt dynamical matching, even if the symmetry of the caldera remains unaffected by the bifurcation.

The Bifurcations of the Critical Points and the Role of Depth in a Symmetric Caldera Potential Energy Surface

Y. Geng et al.

Summary: This work focuses on studying the bifurcations of critical points in a symmetric Caldera potential energy surface, examining the influence of potential depth on trajectory behavior. The study identifies two types of trajectory behavior, dynamic matching and the absence of dynamic matching, and discusses the transition between two types of symmetric Caldera potential energy surfaces through critical point bifurcations.

The Generalization of the Periodic Orbit Dividing Surface in Hamiltonian Systems with Three or More Degrees of Freedom - I

Matthaios Katsanikas et al.

Summary: This method generalizes the construction of periodic orbit dividing surfaces for Hamiltonian systems with three or more degrees of freedom by using a periodic orbit to construct a torus and extending it to the energy surface. The method provides the same dynamical information as the dividing surface constructed using normally hyperbolic invariant manifolds, without the need for complex computations.
