Metal-Free, Rapid, and Highly Chemoselective Reduction of Aromatic Nitro Compounds at Room Temperature

Mingyeong Jang et al.

Summary: This study presents a metal-free and highly chemoselective method for the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds, using tetrahydroxydiboron as the reductant. The reaction can be completed within 5 minutes at room temperature and selectively converts nitroarenes with sensitive functional groups into anilines.

Ruthenium-Locked Helical Chirality: A Barrier of Inversion and Formation of an Asymmetric Macrocycle

Corjan van de Griend et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coordination of tetradentate ligands to metal centers and the resulting formation of helical chiral complexes. The inversion barrier of these complexes is studied using variable-temperature H-1 NMR. Additionally, a serendipitous ring-closing reaction is discovered, resulting in the formation of a chiral complex. This unexpected transformation appears to be specific to ruthenium(II) as macrocyclization did not occur with other metals.

Half-Sandwich Ruthenium Complexes of Amide-Phosphine Based Ligands: H-Bonding Cavity Assisted Binding and Reduction of Nitro-substrates

Sanya Pachisia et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis and characterization of two half-sandwich Ru(II) complexes supported with amide-phosphine based ligands, which serve as significant catalysts for the borohydride mediated reduction of various nitro-substrates. Mechanistic studies have confirmed the intermediacy of [Ru-H] in the reduction and asserted the involvement of several organic intermediates during the catalysis.

Methylene-Linked Bis-NHC Half-Sandwich Ruthenium Complexes: Binding of Small Molecules and Catalysis toward Ketone Transfer Hydrogenation

Jose Manuel Botubol-Ares et al.

Summary: The reaction between Cp*RuCl(COD) and LH2Cl2 in tetrahydrofuran at 65 degrees C leads to the formation of the bis-carbene derivative [Cp*RuCl(L)]. Subsequent reactions with NaBPh4 yield dinitrogen-bridged complexes that are efficient catalyst precursors for the transfer hydrogenation of ketones, with a high functional group tolerance.

Chemoselective Hydrogenation of Nitroarenes Using an Air-Stable Base-Metal Catalyst

Viktoriia Zubar et al.

Summary: A method using a single base-metal catalyst to reduce nitroarenes and azobenzenes under relatively mild conditions has been successfully achieved. This method tolerates a wide range of functional groups and provides high yields of the desired products. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through bifunctional activation involving metal-ligand cooperative catalysis.

Catalytic Water Oxidation by a RuII Half Sandwich Complex

Aditi Vatsa et al.

Summary: Water splitting is an emerging field within sustainable energy systems. A new complex [Ru-hdm] has been synthesized and characterized, showing efficient O-2 generation through both chemical and electrochemical water oxidation. The kinetics of chemical water oxidation demonstrate a first-order dependency on CAN and catalyst concentration.
