HSIFoodIngr-64: A Dataset for Hyperspectral Food-Related Studies and a Benchmark Method on Food Ingredient Retrieval

Xiaojie Xia et al.

Summary: Food-related issues have gained attention due to their wide applications in daily life, such as restaurant service and dietary assessment, which are crucial for human health management and food understanding. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) can explore the emissive characteristics of different objects and has significant potential for food and ingredient analysis. In this study, a new dataset called HSIFoodIngr-64 was established, containing 3,389 pairs of HSI and RGB images with both dish-level and ingredient-level annotations. A benchmark method for food ingredient retrieval was proposed and demonstrated the effectiveness on the HSIFoodIngr-64 dataset. This dataset provides a new perspective on food analysis and encourages further research on food-related issues.

What is new in microcirculation and tissue oxygenation monitoring?

Ilonka N. de Keijzer et al.

Summary: Ensuring and maintaining adequate tissue oxygenation at the microcirculatory level is crucial for optimal hemodynamic patient management. While macro-hemodynamic variables like blood pressure and heart rate are commonly focused on in clinical practice, technological devices assessing tissue oxygenation and microcirculatory blood flow are increasingly being developed and validated for clinical use. Further research is needed to assess outcome measures and cost-effectiveness of these technologies.

Accuracy enhancement in reflective pulse oximetry by considering wavelength-dependent pathlengths

Idoia Badiola et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a correction factor or 'pathlength ratio' beta to compensate for patient-dependent pathlength variations in reflective photoplethysmography (rPPG) for accurate measurement of oxygen saturation. Results show that the proposed method reduces the root-mean-square error (RMSE) to 1% in measuring SpO2 values, demonstrating its applicability in the clinical range of interest. The calibration-free algorithm significantly reduces the number of parameters needed for estimation while maintaining RMSE below 2%.

The vascular occlusion test using multispectral imaging: a validation study The VASOIMAGE study

Arnoud A. Bruins et al.

Summary: The study validated the potential of multispectral imaging in detecting microcirculatory perfusion disturbances during a vascular occlusion test, showing that it can measure changes in microcirculatory perfusion in healthy volunteers. However, the correlation of results between multispectral imaging and near-infrared spectroscopy was moderate to weak, possibly due to differences in physiology of the regions of interest and measurement techniques.

Perfusion index: Physical principles, physiological meanings and clinical implications in anaesthesia and critical care

Maxime Coutrot et al.

Summary: Perfusion index (PI), derived from photoplethysmography (PPG) signal, represents the ratio of pulsatile to non-pulsatile light absorbance or reflectance. The determinants of PI are complex and interlinked, involving the interaction between peripheral and central haemodynamic characteristics. Studies have shown PI's potential in assessing regional or neuraxial block success and haemodynamic monitoring in various clinical settings.

Summary: This study presents a hyper-spectral imaging system for measuring road conditions, using a low-cost calibration reference to measure relative reflectance of any material surface independent of spectral distribution and camera sensitivity. Results show that the acquired spectral data can effectively differentiate different road conditions, demonstrating the system's suitability for material classification.
