Changes of Androstenone Concentrations in Saliva of Boars with Age

Kamila Pokorna et al.

Summary: This study focused on finding a non-invasive method to determine boar taint in pigs by evaluating the concentration of androstenone compounds in their saliva. The results showed a correlation between the concentration of salivary androstenone and the age of the boars. This research has significant implications for preventing the occurrence of boar taint in pork.

Concentrations of Boar Taint Compounds Are Weakly Associated with Sexual Behavior of Young Boars

Elena Boschi et al.

Summary: There is a weak relationship between the concentration of boar taint compounds and sexual behavior traits in young boars. Strategies to reduce boar taint might have unfavorable effects on libido.

Non-Invasive Reproductive Hormone Monitoring in the Endangered Pygmy Hog (Porcula salvania)

Vinod Kumar et al.

Summary: The study on captive pygmy hogs revealed strong seasonality patterns in births from the breeding center, with successful detection of pregnancies in females. Fecal testosterone metabolite concentrations were significantly higher in males during the breeding season, while a significant difference in fecal progesterone metabolites concentration was observed between non-pregnant and pregnant females.
