Microbial mats as model to decipher climate change effect on microbial communities through a mesocosm study

C. Maziere et al.

Summary: Marine environments, particularly microbial communities, are greatly affected by climate change-induced changes in ocean temperature and acidification. Microbial mats in coastal areas provide important ecosystem services and serve as accurate models to study microbial behavior and adaptation strategies in response to climate change. Experimental ecology using mesocosm approaches allows for the controlled study of physical-chemical parameters and their impact on microbial community structure and function.

Legacy and dispersant influence microbial community dynamics in cold seawater contaminated by crude oil water accommodated fractions

Tamer Hafez et al.

Summary: The use of dispersants in cold water environments affects microbial communities and their degradation capacities, particularly in the presence of PAHs. The microbial community shows adaptability to the presence of PAHs and dispersants, with specific bacteria taxa potentially involved in PAHs degradation. Dispersants shape microbial community dynamics by stimulating potential dispersant-degrading taxa.

Functional potential and assembly of microbes from sediments in a lake bay and adjoining river ecosystem for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon biodegradation

Zaisheng Yan et al.

Summary: The study found that the PAH biodegradation capacity of the adjoining river ecosystem was much higher than that of the lake ecosystem, with a faster bioremediation capability; There were significant differences in sediment functional community structure and network interactions between different ecosystems; The activity of PAH degradation genes in LS needed to be biostimulated for accelerated degradation, while the functional communities in RS were capable of spontaneous natural attenuation of PAH.
