Model Predictive Torque Control-Based Induction Motor Drive with Remote Control and Monitoring Interface for Electric Vehicles

Aydin Boyar et al.

Summary: While internal combustion engine vehicles increase carbon emissions, electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more important in reducing air pollution. EV production costs are decreasing due to advancements in technology, particularly in the use of alternating current induction machines (ACIM). This study explores the use of an active neutral point clamped (ANPC) inverter to provide the appropriate voltage for the ACIM in EV configurations. The ANPC inverter is controlled using model predictive torque control and includes remote control and monitoring functions via an Internet of Things-based module.

Torque Ripple Generation Mechanism of Induction Motors by Time and Space Harmonic Fields

Katsumi Yamazaki et al.

Summary: In this article, the generation mechanism of torque ripples in induction motors (IMs) is investigated using theoretical expressions and finite element analysis (FEA). The study provides valuable information for motor designs. It is revealed that the torque ripple generation mechanism of IMs is different from that of synchronous motors (SMs), and the appropriate stator/rotor slot combinations to reduce the torque ripple are clarified.

Overview of Sensorless Control Strategies for Electric Vehicle Traction IPMSM

Andras Holczer et al.

Summary: Sensorless control of electric drives eliminates the need for position sensors, increasing reliability and reducing cost. This paper provides an overview of sensorless control methods used or likely to be used on electric vehicle traction motors. Not every sensorless method is suitable for high power density EV motors, and the operating range may be limited in sensorless mode. The aim is to identify which sensorless control techniques are more suitable for embedding in the control of EV traction motors.

MRAS Based Model Predictive Torque Control of Induction Motor Drive for Electric Vehicles

Aydin Boyar et al.

Summary: The number of fossil fuel vehicles is increasing worldwide, leading to an increased focus on zero-emission electric vehicles (EVs). Depending on the type of motor, EVs use converter and inverter topologies in their structure. This study focuses on the three-phase three-level active neutral point clamping (ANPC) inverter topology, chosen for its high power quality. Induction motors, known for their simple structure and low maintenance costs, are widely used in EVs. The study models a speed sensorless induction motor drive for EVs, using a model predictive controller (MPC) developed for torque control and a model reference adaptive system (MRAS) method for obtaining the speed value. The proposed induction motor drive for EVs is analyzed under varying speed and torque values.

Improved NPC Inverters Without Short-Circuit and Dead-Time Issues

Ashraf Ali Khan et al.

Summary: This article introduces a family of NPC inverters that solve the short-circuit and dead-time issues in traditional inverters, improve the quality of output waveforms, and reduce the voltage stress on semiconductor devices. Compared to other researched inverters, the proposed inverters have lower voltage stress and the ability to provide reactive power. The performance of the proposed inverter is verified through detailed simulation and experimental results.
