Explainable Artificial Intelligence: Evaluating the Objective and Subjective Impacts of xAI on Human-Agent Interaction

Andrew Silva et al.

Summary: Intelligent agents need to communicate intentions and explain decision-making processes to build trust and improve human-agent team dynamics. Researchers are proposing new ideas, methods, and frameworks for more explainable AI, but there is a lack of standardized metrics or protocols for benchmarking new methods.

AdaptiFont: Increasing Individuals' Reading Speed with a Generative Font Model and Bayesian Optimization

Florian Kadner et al.

Summary: AdaptiFont is a human-in-the-loop system aimed at interactively increasing readability of text displayed on a monitor by generating new fonts through active learning. Results from a user study show that this system significantly improves participants' reading speed and the fonts found are significantly different across individual readers.

Enriching ImageNet with Human Similarity Judgments and Psychological Embeddings

Brett D. Roads et al.

Summary: This article introduces a publicly-available dataset called ImageNet-HSJ, which contains a large number of human similarity judgments and supports a variety of tasks and performance metrics. The article demonstrates two evaluation methods and scales to the ILSVRC validation set through a sampling process to assess how well popular models conform to human similarity judgments.
