Traversable Wormholes in General Relativity

R. A. Konoplya et al.

Summary: Blazquez-Salcedo et al. obtained asymptotically flat traversable wormhole solutions in the Einstein-Dirac-Maxwell theory without phantom matter. The previously found solutions had issues, whereas the new solutions are asymmetric and endowed with smooth gravitational and matter fields, making them more realistic.

Traversable wormhole dynamics on a quantum processor

Daniel Jafferis et al.

Summary: The holographic principle suggests that a volume of space can be encoded on a lower-dimensional boundary, with the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model providing a new realization of holography. The experiment conducted on the Google Sycamore processor successfully observed key properties of traversable wormhole physics in the sparsified SYK model, representing a step towards studying quantum gravity in the laboratory. Future developments will require improved hardware scalability and theoretical advancements in higher-dimensional quantum gravity duals and other SYK-like models.

Parametrized black holes: scattering investigation

Renan B. Magalhaes et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the scattering of light-like geodesics and massless scalar waves by a static Konoplya-Zhidenko black hole, considering a single deformation parameter in the parametrized black hole solution. By analyzing the geodesics, we compute the classical differential scattering cross section and examine the influence of the deformation parameter on null trajectories. We also study the propagation of a massless scalar field near the black hole and calculate the differential scattering cross section using the plane waves formalism. Our numerical results are in excellent agreement with the glory approximation when considering the backward direction. Comparing the results for the deformed black hole with the Schwarzschild case, we find that the additional parameter plays an important role in the behavior of the scattering process for moderate-to-high scattering angles.

Wormholes without exotic matter: quasinormal modes, echoes and shadows

M. S. Churilova et al.

Summary: Analytical solutions for traversable asymptotically flat and symmetric wormholes have been obtained independently in two different theories, without the need for exotic matter. Additionally, a numerically obtained smooth normalizable asymmetric wormhole solution has been achieved in one of the theories. The study focuses on the quasinormal ringing of these wormholes, particularly in mimicking near extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes, and calculates the radius of shadows cast by the wormholes.

Reconstructing wormhole solutions in curvature based Extended Theories of Gravity

Vittorio De Falco et al.

Summary: Static and spherically symmetric wormhole solutions can be reconstructed in the framework of curvature based Extended Theories of Gravity, with modified gravitational potentials resulting from the extensions of General Relativity. Observations can constrain possible wormhole solutions, and stable and traversable wormholes can serve as a direct probe for this class of Extended Theories of Gravity.

The imitation game: Proca stars that can mimic the Schwarzschild shadow

Carlos A. R. Herdeiro et al.

Summary: The study finds that dynamically robust spherical Proca stars can successfully mimic the shadow of a (near-)equilibrium Schwarzschild BH in an astrophysical environment, despite the absence of light rings, under certain observation conditions. Different types of bosonic stars exhibit different behaviors in terms of stability and the ability to imitate black hole characteristics, with some solutions showing potential to reproduce the ISCO of a Schwarzschild BH.

Double shadows of reflection-asymmetric wormholes supported by positive energy thin-shells

Merce Guerrero et al.

Summary: This study examines reflection-asymmetric thin-shell wormholes within Palatini f(R) gravity and establishes conditions for stable wormholes supported by positive-energy matter sources. It also identifies parameter subsets for positioning the shell radius above the event horizon but below the photon sphere. Additionally, it demonstrates the phenomenon of two photon spheres allowing observers to see double shadows due to the effective potential on each side of the wormhole.

Boson stars in Palatini f(R) gravity

Andreu Maso-Ferrando et al.

Summary: In the Palatini formulation of f (R) gravity, equilibrium solutions of spherically symmetric boson stars were explored. The study compared solutions of the quadratic theory f (R) = R + xi R-2 with those in general relativity, showing similar existence curves but significant differences for negative coupling parameters leading to repulsive gravitational components. Introducing self-interactions further emphasized the similarities between f (R) and general relativity, making observational discrimination between the two theories challenging.

Junction conditions for generalized hybrid metric-Palatini gravity with applications

Joao Luis Rosa et al.

Summary: The generalized hybrid metric-Palatini gravity theory is discussed in this article, exploring its key concepts, steps for constructing solutions, and junction conditions. These conditions are then applied to three configurations: a star, a quasistar with a black hole, and a wormhole, elucidating their unique properties within this theory.

Can different black holes cast the same shadow?

Haroldo C. D. Lima Junior et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the possibility of two different black holes projecting exactly the same shadow, presenting the necessary and sufficient conditions for a static black hole to have the same shadow as Schwarzschild. It categorizes shadow-degenerate geometries into two classes and provides examples in both static and axi-symmetric cases. The examples demonstrate that nonisometric black hole spacetimes can cast the same shadow, although the lensing is generally different.
