J. W. Lv et al.

Summary: The effects of deformation and isothermal annealing in the supercooled liquid region on the microstructure and room-temperature mechanical properties of Ti33Zr30Cu9Ni5.5Be22.5 bulk metallic glass were investigated. The thermally-deformed specimens showed denser structures and higher characteristic temperatures compared to the annealed specimens, with higher yield and fracture strengths but similar plasticity. Both deformed and annealed specimens precipitated nanocrystals at around 648 K, leading to a rapid decrease in plasticity.

Lingyu Guo et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the influence of magnetic field assisted nanosecond pulsed laser processing on the structure and magnetic property of Fe78Si9B13 amorphous alloy. The magnetic field causes surface splashing, which is related to the Lorentz force generated by the applied magnetic field and current. The magnetic field does not significantly crystallize the amorphous alloy, but can enhance its crystallization sensitivity and promote the formation of more nanocrystals in the heat affected zone.

Experimental observation of two-stage crystallization of Ge2Sb2Te amorphous thin films under the influence of a pulsed laser

Tatyana Kunkel et al.

Summary: Crystallization of amorphous thin films of Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST225) under femtosecond pulses excitation can occur in two ways: formation of fine-grained polycrystalline material at moderate laser fluence levels, and production of larger grains closer to the beam axis at higher fluence levels, leading to inhibition of nucleation due to high cooling velocity. The type of substrate (metallic or oxide) and film thickness also affect the crystallization process due to light penetration depth and reflection from the film-substrate interface.

Softening and hardening on a Zr-based bulk metallic glass induced by nanosecond laser surface melting

Yang Jiao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that laser surface melting can modify the hardness and shear banding behavior of bulk metallic glasses. Surface hardening and softening effects were observed post-LSM, with the introduction of compressive residual stress leading to increased surface hardening, and tensile residual stress resulting in surface softening. Differences in shear-banding mechanisms were detected near the surface, with reduced serrated flow and increased surface shear bands observed with compressive residual stress, and more pronounced serrated flows and deeper shear banding activity promoted with tensile residual stress following LSM.
