ST-CapsNet: Linking Spatial and Temporal Attention With Capsule Network for P300 Detection Improvement

Zehui Wang et al.

Summary: A brain-computer interface (BCI) has great potential in various applications, and the P300-based BCI speller is a typical example. However, the low recognition rate of the P300 speller is a challenge due to the complex spatio-temporal characteristics of EEG signals. In this study, we proposed a deep-learning framework named ST-CapsNet to improve P300 detection using a capsule network with spatial and temporal attention modules.

Feature Fusion-Based Capsule Network for Cross-Subject Mental Workload Classification

Yinhu Yu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a capsule network for cross-subject mental workload classification based on electroencephalogram (EEG) in a complex human-computer interaction system. The network captures structural relationships between features of power spectral density and brain connectivity. The results show that the proposed method achieves higher classification accuracy compared to other methods, such as convolutional neural network and support vector machine. Feature fusion is also found to positively contribute to the cross-subject workload classification. This study can benefit the future development of a real-time workload detection system that is not specific to subjects.

EEG Based Dynamic Functional Connectivity Analysis in Mental Workload Tasks With Different Types of Information

Kai Guan et al.

Summary: Accurately evaluating the mental workload of operators is crucial in human-machine systems. This study applied a dynamic brain network analysis method to explore changes in mental workload across different tasks. The results showed that certain nodes and connectivity were sensitive to mental workload, and a SVM classifier achieved high accuracy in mental workload discrimination. The findings suggest that evaluating cross-task mental workload using dynamic functional connectivity metrics is feasible and important for understanding the neural mechanisms of different types of information.
