Tri-decadal evolution of land subsidence in the Beijing Plain revealed by multi-epoch satellite InSAR observations

Jie Dong et al.

Summary: Persistent land subsidence induced by groundwater exploitation in the Beijing Plain has caused significant damages to buildings and infrastructure. This study used multi-sensor C-band InSAR measurements to retrieve land subsidence measurements over the past three decades. The results showed three major subsidence areas surrounding downtown Beijing, with the maximum vertical displacement of 1.98 m in the Chaoyang District. The land subsidence has decelerated since 2016 and is now almost stagnant, while land uplift has been observed in other districts.

Monitoring Large-Scale Hydraulic Engineering Using Sentinel-1 InSAR: A Case Study of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route Project

Nan Wang et al.

Summary: The Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China, which plays a vital role in water supply for the Beijing-Tianjin area, is effectively monitored using satellite synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR). This study demonstrates the effectiveness of InSAR in identifying deformed canal sections and its correlation with ground leveling measurements, showcasing its potential for large-scale hydraulic engineering monitoring.

A PSI targets characterization approach to interpreting surface displacement signals: A case study of the Shanghai metro tunnels

Mengshi Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a target characterization approach for multi-epoch InSAR post-processing to efficiently correlate the target's possible deformation types and corresponding characteristics. The approach is demonstrated on the metro network of Shanghai, China, showing its effectiveness in measuring displacements of Earth's surface over time.
