Extracting structural motifs from pair distribution function data of nanostructures using explainable machine learning

Andy S. Anker et al.

Summary: Characterization of material structure using X-ray or neutron scattering often relies on refining structure models against experimental data. However, finding suitable models can be challenging. A recent development, ML-MotEx, combines machine learning algorithms with SHAP values to identify important features for fitting quality from thousands of fits.

InSitu Studies of the Formation of Tungsten and Niobium Oxide Nanoparticles: Towards Automated Analysis of Reaction Pathways from PDF Analysis using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient

Emil T. S. Kjaer et al.

Summary: In this study, the formation of tungsten and niobium oxides through solvothermal synthesis was investigated using PDF analysis. PCC analysis was employed to map the structural changes during the synthesis and identify the structural models for precursor and product. The analysis revealed the formation of ultra-small nanoparticles with characteristic structural motifs, as well as the structure of the precursor complex.
