ReS2 with unique trion behavior as a co-catalyst for enhanced sunlight hydrogen production

Xue Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a hollow spherical nano-shell composite (g-C3N4/CdS/ReS2) consisting of three different materials was prepared for photocatalytic hydrogen production. Rhenium disulfide (ReS2) was used as a cost-effective and high-performance co-catalyst. The unique trion behavior of ReS2 significantly enhanced the rate of photocatalytic hydrogen production through a two-electron catalytic reaction. In addition, the active edge sites of ReS2 promoted the generation and desorption of hydrogen, favoring the two-electron catalytic reaction. Compared to the commonly used platinum (Pt) co-catalyst, the unique trion behavior of ReS2 altered the interfacial catalytic reaction and provided a new approach for enhancing the activity of photocatalytic systems.

Up-conversion fluorescent carbon quantum dots decorated covalent triazine frameworks as efficient metal-free photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution

Yueling Chen et al.

Summary: This study successfully enhanced the activity of photocatalytic hydrogen production by constructing carbon quantum dots/covalent triazine-based framework (CQDs/CTF) non-metallic photocatalyst. Carbon quantum dots played an important role in electron capture and the separation of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. Additionally, the up-conversion fluorescent characteristics of CQDs broadened the visible-light response range and improved solar energy utilization efficiency.

Efficient degradation of organic pollutants by enhanced interfacial internal electric field induced via various crystallinity carbon nitride homojunction

Yan Guo et al.

Summary: A Tri-crystallinity homojunction carbon nitride photocatalyst is developed to enhance the degradation activity of organic pollutants. The increase in crystallinity results in the formation of an internal electric field (IEF) at the interface, which improves charge separation and transfer. The Tri-crystallinity carbon nitride exhibits at least 20 times greater degradation activity towards antibiotics compared to primary carbon nitride.
