Psychiatric rehabilitation patterns in Italy: Results from the Italian Society of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (SIRP) survey

Caterina Vigano et al.

Summary: Psychiatric rehabilitation is a bidirectional technique aimed at helping patients achieve their personal goals and integrating into the community. However, it is often overlooked as a first-line treatment and is mistakenly seen as a generic and aimless practice. A survey conducted in Italy revealed positive aspects of rehabilitation interventions, such as the use of validated tools for evaluation and teamwork, but there is a lack of evidence-based interventions in Italian psychiatric services. This study provides insight into the current state of psychiatric rehabilitation in Italy and lays the foundation for an updated and shared network.

An Occupation-Based Healthy Nutrition and Wellness Program for Individuals With Schizophrenia

Selma Ercan Dogu et al.

Summary: The effectiveness of an occupation-based Healthy Nutrition and Wellness Program (HNWP) on dietary knowledge, habits, metabolic values, and well-being of people with schizophrenia was investigated in this study. Findings showed that HNWP increased the healthy nutrition knowledge, improved some dietary habits, increased HDL cholesterol, and promoted general well-being of individuals with schizophrenia. Inclusion of occupation-based HNWPs into treatment of individuals with schizophrenia can increase awareness about healthy life and improve their dietary habits and well-being.
