Contemporaneous symptom networks of multidimensional symptom experiences in cancer survivors: A network analysis

Zheng Zhu et al.

Summary: This study examines symptom networks of multidimensional symptom experiences in cancer survivors, exploring centrality indices and network density. The findings indicate that fatigue is a severe symptom but has lower centrality compared to other symptoms. Additionally, there is a significant difference in network density between survivors with less than 5 years of survivorship and other time periods.

Cancer-related symptoms among young and middle-aged women undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer: Application of latent class analysis and network analysis

Tingting Cai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify subgroups and symptom networks of cancer-related symptoms in women under 60 undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. A three-class model was identified, and core symptoms and intervention methods were determined for each class. The study findings provide valuable insights for personalized symptom management in this population.

Contemporaneous symptom networks and correlates during endocrine therapy among breast cancer patients: A network analysis

Feng Jing et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the complex relationship of endocrine therapy-related symptoms and to identify the core symptoms among breast cancer patients. The findings demonstrated that emotional symptoms and functional impairment were associated with the overall symptom burden among patients. Developing targeted interventions focused on emotional symptoms may relieve the overall symptom burden for breast cancer patients during endocrine therapy.

Summary: The American Cancer Society predicts that there will be 1,958,310 new cancer cases and 609,820 cancer deaths in the United States in 2023. While incidence trends for most cancers are favorable, prostate cancer saw a significant increase of 3% annually from 2014 to 2019. However, the overall cancer death rate continues to decline due to advances in treatment, with a 33% reduction since 1991.

Correlation Between Symptom Clusters and Quality of Life in Children With Acute Leukemia During Chemotherapy

Rongrong Li et al.

Summary: This study examined symptom clusters and their impact on quality of life in children with acute leukemia undergoing chemotherapy. Six symptom clusters were identified, and gastrointestinal, emotional, and somatic clusters were found to significantly predict quality of life. These findings have important implications for improving the quality of life in children with acute leukemia.

Remission, treatment failure, and relapse in pediatric ALL: an international consensus of the Ponte-di-Legno Consortium

Swantje Buchmann et al.

Summary: Comparison of treatment strategies in de novo pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) requires standardized measures of efficacy. Key parameters defining disease-related events, such as complete remission (CR), treatment failure (TF), and relapse, have significant heterogeneity in their definitions. A consensus definition was established by representatives of major international ALL clinical trial groups, which includes specific criteria for CR, TF, and relapse. These consensus definitions will improve the comparability of outcomes in pediatric ALL trials and promote the development of international collaborative trials.

Symptom Prevalence in Spanish and Colombian Oncology Patients Measured with the MSAS

Ines Llamas-Ramos et al.

Summary: Oncology patients experience a variety of symptoms due to their illness and treatments. Understanding the prevalence of these symptoms is important for improving treatments and patients' quality of life. This study found that the prevalence of symptoms among Spanish and Colombian oncology patients is similar, providing valuable information for designing and adapting treatments.

Incidence and risk factors for oral mucositis in pediatric patients receiving chemotherapy

Marina Curra et al.

Summary: The study investigated the incidence and risk factors for oral mucositis in pediatric cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. It found that chemotherapy protocols using high-dose methotrexate, methotrexate combined with cyclophosphamide/doxorubicin, and methotrexate combined with cyclophosphamide have a higher incidence of severe grades of oral mucositis. Patients with severe oral mucositis also exhibited lower levels of leukocytes, hemoglobin, platelets, and higher levels of total bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and creatinine.

Symptom clusters in 1330 survivors of 7 cancer types from the PROFILES registry: A network analysis

Belle H. de Rooij et al.

Summary: Background research into the clustering of symptoms can improve the understanding of the underlying mechanisms affecting survivors' symptom burden. This study used network analyses to explore symptom clustering and found fatigue to be consistently the most central symptom across all cancer types, treatment regimens, and short-term and long-term survivors. While longitudinal data are needed to establish the causal nature of these symptoms, focusing on fatigue in cancer survivorship rehabilitation programs could help reduce overall symptom burden.
