Alexithymia, Emotional Distress, and Perceived Quality of Life in Patients With Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

Gabriella Martino et al.

Summary: Emotion-processing impairment is a risk factor for somatic illness, affecting health-related quality of life and disease management. This pilot study found associations between alexithymia and depression, anxiety, and HRQoL in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, as well as differences in psychological features between patients with HT and controls. Promoting the capability to describe and communicate feelings may contribute to improved self-management and perceived HRQoL in patients with HT.
