The Relative Incident Rate Ratio Effect Size for Count-Based Impact Evaluations: When an Odds Ratio is Not an Odds Ratio

David B. Wilson

Summary: Area-based prevention studies often use count-based outcomes represented in a 2-by-2 table, with an emphasis on incident rate ratio and relative incident rate ratio as the preferred effect size, rather than Cohen's d or odds ratio. This approach is advocated for impact evaluations and meta-analyses of such studies.

Summary: The postpartum period is a critical time for improving maternal health, but inadequate postpartum care, especially for individuals facing social and structural barriers, is common in the United States. Patient navigation is a patient-centered intervention that can help eliminate these barriers and promote comprehensive and timely access to health services.

Hospital Readmission Following Delivery with and Without Severe Maternal Morbidity

Christopher M. Black et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study found that women who experienced severe maternal morbidity (SMM) during delivery hospitalization had over 10 times higher risk of hospital readmission compared to women without SMM. The most common discharge diagnoses following readmission included obstetric infection and endometritis in women without SMM, and eclampsia in women with SMM during delivery.
