The Existence of a Weak Solution to Volume Preserving Mean Curvature Flow in Higher Dimensions

Keisuke Takasao

Summary: In this paper, a family of integral varifolds is constructed as a global weak solution to the volume preserving mean curvature flow in the sense of L-2-flow. The flow is also a distributional BV-solution for a short time when the perimeter of the initial data is close enough to that of a ball with the same volume. The construction of the flow involves the use of the Allen-Cahn equation with a non-local term motivated by previous studies.

Self-Propulsion of Chemically Active Droplets

Sebastien Michelin

Summary: Microscopic active droplets swim autonomously in viscous flows by exploiting solute transport and self-generated Marangoni flows. They are of great interest to physicists, chemists, biologists, and fluid dynamicists for analyzing self-propulsion and collective dynamics, developing cellular models, or performing biomedical and engineering applications. This review focuses on the recent developments of these fascinating droplets, including mathematical and physical modeling, experimental design, and characterization.

The Existence of a Weak Solution to Volume Preserving Mean Curvature Flow in Higher Dimensions

Keisuke Takasao

Summary: In this paper, a family of integral varifolds is constructed as a global weak solution to the volume preserving mean curvature flow in the sense of L2-flow. This flow is proven to be a distributional BV-solution for a short time when the perimeter of the initial data is sufficiently close to that of a ball with the same volume. The construction of the flow is based on the Allen-Cahn equation with a non-local term, motivated by previous studies. Convergence of the solution for the Allen-Cahn equation to the family of integral varifolds is proved under natural assumptions for the initial data.
