Cellulose grafted poly acrylic acid doped manganese oxide nanorods as novel platform for catalytic, antibacterial activity and molecular docking analysis

Muhammad Ikram et al.

Summary: Cellulose nanocrystal grafted poly acrylic acid (CNC-g-PAA) doped MnO2 nanorods with different concentrations were synthesized. The influence of CNC-g-PAA on the catalysis and antibacterial behavior of MnO2 was analyzed. Various characterization approaches were used to investigate the optical, structural, morphological features, and chemical composition of the synthesized materials. The catalytic activity of CNC-g-PAA doped MnO2 increased gradually with a higher doping ratio, and 9 mL CNC-g-PAA doped MnO2 showed significant antibacterial effects against Escherichia coli.

Probing the effect of nitrate anion in CAN: An additional opportunity to reduce the catalyst loading for aerobic oxidations

Ying Chen et al.

Summary: Catalyzed by cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN), the oxidative cracking reaction of alkenes occurred to produce carbonyls in good yields under mild conditions. The reaction employed molecular oxygen (O2) as the safe and clean oxidant. The catalyst dosage was reduced to as low as 0.5 mol%, while no additive was required. Thus, it may afford a generally green synthetic approach for introducing oxygen into organic molecules as well as the biomass degradation and the resource recycling from the C=C bond-containing waste polymers. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis and control experiments demonstrated that the process proceeded via a single electron transfer (SET) reaction-initiated free radical reaction mechanism. In the process, both Ce and NO3- acted as the oxygen carrier to promote the oxidation reaction. The application of the abundantly existed nitrate in CAN was found to be the key for reducing the catalyst loading.

La-Doped CeO2 Quantum Dots: Novel Dye Degrader, Antibacterial Activity, and In Silico Molecular Docking Analysis

Anum Shahzadi et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized La-doped CeO2 quantum dots with different concentrations (2%, 4%, 6%) using a hydrothermal approach. The structural, elemental, optical, and morphological properties of the dots were analyzed. It was found that La doping suppressed the crystallinity and improved the dispersion of CeO2 quantum dots. The dots also exhibited antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and remarkable photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue.

Recent advances and trends of heterogeneous electro-Fenton process for wastewater treatment-review

Zining Wang et al.

Summary: Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs), particularly the heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) process, with in-situ formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), have shown great potential for the effective and environmentally friendly treatment of refractory organic pollutants. This article discusses the surface catalytic mechanisms for H2O2 activation in the heterogeneous EF process and summarizes the required features for H2O2 formation via selective oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) with carbonaceous electrodes. It also provides an overview of solid Fenton catalysts and integrated functional cathodes used in heterogeneous EF for wastewater treatment, along with a brief discussion on their catalytic activity and stability under different experimental conditions. Additionally, the application of heterogeneous EF process in the remediation of emerging contaminants is highlighted, while emphasizing the challenges and future prospects related to catalytic fall-off and multi-step/complex techniques for water purification.

Comparative Study of Sonophotocatalytic, Photocatalytic, and Catalytic Activities of Magnesium and Chitosan-Doped Tin Oxide Quantum Dots

Sawaira Moeen et al.

Summary: The present study demonstrates the hydrothermal synthesis of SnO2 quantum dots doped with different concentrations of magnesium and chitosan. The results show that the incorporation of dopants leads to changes in the crystal size and band gap energy of SnO2 quantum dots, as well as the formation of nanorod-like structures and agglomeration. Moreover, the prepared nanocatalyst exhibits good performance in dye degradation.

Zengsen Sun et al.

Summary: A novel silver and silver-doped ceria (Ag/CeO2) nanocomposite catalyst synthesized by a facile one-pot coprecipitation method shows high efficiency and activity in converting CO2 into CO due to its rich 3D interface and high Ce3+ concentration. The strong interfacial interaction between Ag and CeO2 enables improved durability during electrolysis, with accelerated CO formation rate being the main factor contributing to the superior ECR performance of Ag/CeO2.

Photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanoparticles and the role of the synthesis method on their physical and chemical properties

M. C. Uribe-Lopez et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of different synthesis methods on the photoactivity of ZnO nanoparticles were investigated. It was found that the sol-gel method resulted in higher photocatalytic performance compared to the precipitation method, mainly due to the distinct morphologies of ZnO nanoparticles obtained from each method. These results highlight the significant impact of slight variations in physical and chemical properties on the photocatalytic performance of ZnO nanoparticles.
