Intestinal colonization with Candida auris and mucosal immune response in mice treated with cefoperazone oral antibiotic

Diprasom Das et al.

Summary: This study reveals that treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics increases the colonization and dissemination of Candida auris from the intestine. Furthermore, the intestinal colonization of C. auris alters the microbiome composition of antibiotic-treated mice. In C. auris infected mice, the number of CD11b+ CX3CR1+ macrophages in the intestine is significantly decreased, while the increase of Th17 and Th22 cells is comparable to Candida albicans infection. Candida-specific IgA is significantly increased in the serum of C. auris infected mice.

The role of disinfectants and sanitizers during COVID-19 pandemic: advantages and deleterious effects on humans and the environment

Kuldeep Dhama et al.

Summary: Disinfectants and sanitizers play a crucial role in controlling and preventing diseases like COVID-19, but their indiscriminate use can have harmful impacts on humans, animals, and the environment. Therefore, mitigation strategies and the development of safe, affordable, and effective disinfectants using eco-friendly technologies like nanotechnology are necessary to minimize these negative effects.

Cell Surface Expression of Nrg1 Protein in Candida auris

Anuja Paudyal et al.

Summary: C. auris is an emerging antifungal resistant pathogen that produces unique proteins during biofilm growth, including zinc-binding proteins. The zinc-binding transcription factor Nrg1p, known to negatively regulate hyphal growth in C. albicans, was unexpectedly found on the cell surface of C. auris in biofilms. This discovery suggests a potential role of C. auris Nrg1p in its skin-colonizing lifestyle during pathogenesis.
