Measurement of effective wetting area at hydrophobic solid?liquid interface

Dejian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed an electrochemical impedance method to evaluate the effective wetting area at a hydrophobic solid-liquid interface, finding a positive correlation between electrochemical impedance and surface hydrophobicity, and a negative correlation with effective wetting area. Patterned Si surfaces exhibited an intermediate wetting state, with the predicted effective wetting area matching well with the partial wetting model.

Direct observation of wetting behavior of water drops on single micro-scale roughness surfaces of rose petal effect

Hui-Ping Lin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a surface with certain roughness on single micro-scale structures can exhibit petal effect, where water drops can be pinned by infiltrating into spaces between micro-pillars. Experimental observations reveal the evolution of wetting behavior of water droplets on surfaces with varying roughness, including the Cassie-Wenzel transition during ACA measurement.

Biomimetic Approach for the Elaboration of Highly Hydrophobic Surfaces: Study of the Links between Morphology and Wettability

Quentin Legrand et al.

Summary: This study investigated the link between morphology and wetting through a biomimetic approach, demonstrating that morphological contribution can significantly increase contact angles and reduce contact angle hysteresis on textured replicated surfaces. The findings suggest a potential application of hierarchical models in describing wetting behavior of different plant species.
