Optimal Intensity and Duration of Walking Rehabilitation in Patients With Chronic Stroke A Randomized Clinical Trial

Pierce Boyne et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the optimal training intensity and minimum training duration for walking rehabilitation in stroke patients. The results showed that high-intensity interval training produced better improvement in walking capacity, and at least 12 weeks of training were needed to maximize the effects.

Use of explicit processes during a visually guided locomotor learning task predicts 24-h retention after stroke

Margaret A. French et al.

Summary: Implicit and explicit processes can occur within a single locomotor learning task. Stroke survivors use both processes similarly to healthy adults during visually guided locomotion learning. The amount of explicit processes is related to how well stroke survivors retain the new walking pattern, but not to task performance. Understanding underlying learning mechanisms is important for retention of newly learned motor behavior.

The acute effects of aerobic exercise on sensorimotor adaptation in chronic stroke

Christopher P. Mackay et al.

Summary: The aim of the study was to investigate whether acute aerobic exercise promotes sensorimotor adaptation in stroke survivors. The results showed that acute aerobic exercise significantly increased sensorimotor adaptation in chronic stroke survivors, indicating a potential role for aerobic exercise in promoting the recovery of sensorimotor function in this population.
