Electrophilic Sulfur Reagent Design Enables Directed syn-Carbosulfenylation of Unactivated Alkenes

Zi-Qi Li et al.

Summary: This study describes a multi-component approach to prepare structurally complex organosulfur compounds through a nickel-catalyzed 1,2-carbosulfenylation reaction between unactivated alkenes, organoboron nucleophiles, and tailored organosulfur electrophiles. The selectivity of the reaction pathway is controlled by tuning the electronic and steric properties of the leaving group in the reagents, favoring three-component coupling and suppressing side reactions.

Visible-Light-Driven Organophotocatalyzed Multicomponent Approach for Tandem C(sp3)-H Activation and Alkylation Followed by Trifluoromethylthiolation

Krishna Gopal Ghosh et al.

Summary: A visible-light-driven organophotocatalyzed multicomponent approach has been developed for tandem direct C(sp(3))-H activation and alkylation followed by trifluoromethylthiolation in a one-pot operation. This method shows great generality and can tolerate a wide variety of functional groups.

Regioselective 1,2-carbosulfenylation of unactivated alkenes via directed nickel catalysis

Lin Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, a bidentate directing group-assisted Ni-catalyzed three component 1,2-carbosulfenylation reaction was reported, which allows for the transformation of unactivated alkenes using aryl/alkenylboronic acids and disulfide electrophiles. The reaction showed high levels of chemo- and regioselectivity and could introduce a wide range of aryl groups and sulfur moieties into homoallylic amines. Notably, it also enabled the synthesis of α,gamma-dibranched thiolamines with high diastereoselectivity and enantioselectivity.

Visible-Light-Driven Organophotocatalyzed Mono-, Di-, and Tri-C(sp3)-H Alkylation of Phosphoramides

Krishna Gopal Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a metal-free, visible-light-driven, highly atom-economic direct alkylation reaction of phosphoramides and thiophosphoramides under environmentally benign conditions. Mono- and multiple alpha-C(sp(3))-H alkylation reactions are achieved using different photcatalysts with good yield and selectivity. Mechanistic studies reveal different pathways for mono- and multi-alkylations involving distinct transfer mechanisms.

Photochemical C-H Activation Enables Nickel-Catalyzed Olefin Dicarbofunctionalization

Mark W. Campbell et al.

Summary: Alkenes, ethers, and alcohols are commonly used bulk reagents in the chemistry community, serving as fuels and solvents in industries such as petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and agrochemical. However, their utilization as building blocks for complex small molecules is limited by the need for prefunctionalization to achieve high selectivity.

Visible-Light Driven Organo-photocatalyzed Multicomponent Reaction for C(sp3)-H Alkylation of Phosphoramides with in situ Generated Michael Acceptors

Krishna Gopal Ghosh et al.

Summary: A tandem, one-pot, multicomponent reaction for direct alpha-C(sp(3))-H alkylation of phosphoramides and thiophosphoramides scaffolds is demonstrated. The basic nature of phosphoramide leads to the generation of various Michael acceptors in situ, making the reactions highly atom and step economical. Mild reaction conditions, free of metal catalysts and external additives, result in good yields and selectivity of alkylated phosphoramides using visible-light organo-photocatalysis.
