Algorithm for a cost-reducing time-integration scheme for solving incompressible Navier-Stokes equations

Philsu Kim et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel trajectory-approximation technique as a time-integration scheme for solving advectional partial differential equations in engineering and physics, saving computational costs and achieving third-order accuracy. The method demonstrates superior performance in simulating benchmark test flows.

An immersed boundary projection method for incompressible interface simulations in 3D flows

Kian Chuan Ong et al.

Summary: This paper extends a previous 2D immersed boundary projection method for inextensible vesicles in unsteady Stokes flow to a 3D incompressible interface, ensuring conservative constraints associated with local fluid volume and interfacial area through triangulation. An extra scalar field is introduced in the numerical implementation for efficient solution of fluid pressure and interfacial elastic tension. Numerical tests are performed to validate the method's robustness and applicability, including convergence study and deformation analysis for different initial configurations of the incompressible interface. Additional bending force and penalty force are incorporated to simulate oblate vesicle dynamics in quiescent flow.

How Many CO2 Bubbles in a Glass of Beer?

Gerard Liger-Belair et al.

Summary: The number of bubbles in a glass of beer is influenced by dissolved CO2, tiny particles or glass imperfections as bubble nucleation sites, and bubble dynamics. Experimental and theoretical developments on the thermodynamic equilibrium of CO2 in beer were related to bottling and serving commercial lager beer. The total number of CO2 bubbles likely to form in a glass of beer can be predicted based on key parameters.
