The orbitofrontal cortex of the sheep. Topography, organization, neurochemistry, digital tensor imaging and comparison with the chimpanzee and human

Tommaso Gerussi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the homology of the sheep's brain to the human orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), an area associated with higher brain functions. The findings reveal that sheep share similarities with humans in cortical structure and connectivity, suggesting that sheep possess the basic components necessary for complex abstract thought and exhibit certain functional adaptations.

Through the looking glass: how do marked dolphins use mirrors and what does it mean?

A. Loth et al.

Summary: Mirror-guided self-inspection is considered a cognitive trait related to self-recognition. Only a few species, including great apes and other animals, have been reported to pass mirror self-recognition tests. However, there has been controversy regarding what actions count as self-directed behavior to observe the mark. To address this issue, researchers marked the areas around dolphins' eyes and found that the dolphins actively chose to inspect their visibly marked side.
