Diffusion-Limited Accepter Alloy Enables Highly Efficient and Stable Organic Solar Cells

Cen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the addition of ZCCF3 as a third component can stabilize the classical Y6-based binary organic solar cells. ZCCF3 has a higher glass transition temperature (T-g) than Y6 and high miscibility with Y6, resulting in a diffusion-limited Y6:ZCCF3 alloy when blended with the polymer donor. As a result, the optimal PM6:Y6:ZCCF3 devices achieve a champion power conversion efficiency of 18.54% and can retain 80% initial efficiency for up to 360 hours. This study highlights the importance of the high T-g and hyper-miscible accepter alloys of the third component in achieving highly efficient and stable organic solar cells.

A Multifluorination Strategy Toward Wide Bandgap Polymers for Highly Efficient Organic Solar Cells

Jinming Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a multifluorinated unit 4,5,6,7-tetrafluoronaphtho[2,1-b:3,4-b']dithio-phene (FNT) and its polymers PFNT-F and PFNT-Cl were reported. The advantages of multifluorination include low-lying HOMO and wide band gap, high film crystallinity and efficient hole transport, as well as well-defined nanofibrous morphology and face-on orientation in blend films. The PFNT-F/Cl:N3 based OSCs achieved impressive FF values of 0.80 and remarkable PCEs of 17.53% and 18.10%, making them the best donor materials in OSCs. This work provides new insights into the rational design of high-performance polymers through the multifluorination strategy.
