Proposal and investigation of CO2 capture from fired heater flue gases to increase methanol production: A case study

Mohammad Shamsi et al.

Summary: In a petrochemical complex in Iran, the effect of using post-combustion CO2 capture technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and increase methanol production was investigated. Simulation results showed that piperazine solvent had better performance compared to the other two solvents, with higher energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, and lower solvent regeneration energy.

Modeling of carbon dioxide absorption by solution of piperazine and methyldiethanolamine in a rotating packed bed

Arash Esmaeili et al.

Summary: The CO2 removal model using a blended amine solution in a rotating packed bed showed good agreement with experimental data, with an average absolute deviation of less than 7.0%. The process analysis revealed that rotational speed and PZ concentration have significant effects on CO2 absorption efficiency.

Efficient nickel-based catalysts for amine regeneration of CO2 capture: From experimental to calculations verifications

Qiang Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Ni-HZSM-5 catalyst was developed to improve CO2 desorption rate and reduce heat duty. The introduction of nickel increased the acid sites of the catalyst, leading to higher CO2 desorption rate. Both computational and experimental results support the potential application of this catalyst in industrial CO2 capture.

Study on the mechanism and kinetics of amine with steric hindrance absorbing CO2 in non-aqueous/aqueous solution

Mengjie Chen et al.

Summary: Several alkanolamines were studied to investigate the steric hindrance effect on the reaction kinetics between amine and CO2 in ethanol and aqueous solutions. It was found that stronger steric hindrance decreases the reaction rate, while a larger pKa value of the amine accelerates the deprotonation reaction. Additionally, the solvent environment also affects the relative influence of steric hindrance and pKa on the reaction kinetics.

Development of a monoethanolamine/n-butanol biphasic solution with tunable phase separation for CO2 absorption via combined experimental and computational study: Role of solvation environment, phase separation mechanism

Qinlan Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the tunable phase separation and mechanism of monoethanolamine/n-butanol biphasic solution. Experimental and simulation results reveal that the concentration ratio and solvation environment play significant roles in phase separation behavior and desorption performance. The mechanism involves hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces.

Sorption-enhanced Steam Methane Reforming for Combined CO2 Capture and Hydrogen Production: A State-of-the-Art Review

Salman Masoudi Soltani et al.

Summary: The paper explores the significant role of hydrogen in the economic recovery of EU countries after COVID-19 and its key role in a fossil fuel-free future. Sustainable hydrogen production requires a shift from current carbon-emitting pathways to capture emissions. A low-carbon SMR technology is discussed, involving carbon capture while producing hydrogen. The paper provides an in-depth review on process advances, catalysts, and the use of AI in this technology, aiming to fill existing gaps in the literature.
