Experimental and Numerical Investigations on the Adsorption/Desorption Performance of Low-Concentration VOCs over H-ZSM-5 with Different SiO2/Al2O3 Ratios

Xu Yue et al.

Summary: A mechanistic study was conducted to investigate the effect of the SiO2/Al2O3 ratio (SAR) on the adsorption/desorption behaviors of low-concentration VOCs over H-ZSM-5. The results showed that higher SARs promoted adsorption but resulted in imperfect desorption efficiency. The dependence between the adsorbent and VOCs was heterogeneous. Equilibrium and kinetic parameters were obtained based on the Langmuir model, and a TSA model was established to predict the temperature and VOC concentration evolution along the adsorption bed, which agreed well with experimental data.

Review on Catalytic Oxidation of VOCs at Ambient Temperature

Rui Zhao et al.

Summary: This review systematically summarizes recent progress on the catalytic oxidation of VOCs at ambient temperature. The structure-activity relationship in the catalytic oxidation process can be influenced by adjusting the structure of nanoparticle catalysts, cluster catalysts, and single-atom catalysts. The catalytic activity is also affected by process conditions. Currently, ambient temperature catalytic oxidation is mainly used for the removal of easily degradable pollutants, and there is a need to improve the activity, selectivity, and stability of catalysts. New prospects and challenges are proposed based on the existing problems and limitations in the application of ambient temperature catalytic oxidation technology.

Enhancing adsorption capacities of low-concentration VOCs under humid conditions using NaY@meso-SiO2 core-shell composite

Huijuan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, core-shell composites of NaY zeolite coated with mesoporous SiO2 were synthesized to improve the hydrophobicity and mass diffusion of the zeolite. The results showed that the composites exhibited enhanced adsorption capacity and diffusion of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The coating of NaY zeolite with mesoporous SiO2 promoted the diffusion of VOCs into the composites, and the NaY@meso-SiO2-1.2 composite showed the strongest adsorption ability and excellent hydrophobicity at RH = 50%.

Effect of nitrogen functional groups on competitive adsorption between toluene and water vapor onto nitrogen-doped spherical resorcinol-formaldehyde resin-based activated carbon

Jinjin Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of nitrogen functional groups on the competitive adsorption of toluene and water vapor. It is found that nitrogen functional groups enhance the competitive adsorption of toluene under humid conditions and improve the hydrophobicity of carbon surface. The competitive adsorption mechanisms are attributed to pi-pi interactions and electrostatic interactions.

Dynamic adsorption/desorption of p-xylene on nanomorphic MFI zeolites: Effect of zeolite crystal thickness and mesopore architecture

Nam Sun Kim et al.

Summary: The breakthrough time of MFI zeolite could be significantly improved by reducing the crystal thickness to a single-unit-cell dimension, resulting in easy access of p-xylene to micropores. Open mesopores did not slow down the mass transfer of p-xylene into zeolite adsorbents, while constricted mesopores did. Mesopore opening is crucial for the desorption behavior of p-xylene, with facilitated diffusion through mesoporous channels allowing for desorption at lower temperatures.
