Ultrasound-stimulated microbubbles enhanced vascular disruption in fractionated radiotherapy-treated tumours via ASMase activation

Kai Xuan Leong et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that combining ultrasound-stimulated microbubbles (USMB) with fractionated radiotherapy (fXRT) enhances tumor response. However, mice lacking acid sphingomyelinase (ASMase) showed radioresistance against fXRT, both alone and in combination with USMB. These results highlight the importance of ASMase in facilitating vascular changes and enhancing tumor response when using fXRT and USMB.

Magnetic resonance linear accelerator technology and adaptive radiation therapy: An overview for clinicians

William A. Hall et al.

Summary: Radiation therapy (RT) plays a critical role in cancer treatment, with Adaptive RT (ART) being a novel method that utilizes computed tomography or magnetic resonance images for treatment adaptation. ART can impact various cancers, offering potential benefits from reducing toxicity to improving overall survival. The emerging MR-guided ART (MRgART) further advances adaptive image guidance, although it can be more costly, time-consuming, and complex compared to traditional ART methods.

Application of Radiosensitizers in Cancer Radiotherapy

Liuyun Gong et al.

Summary: Radiosensitizers are agents that can enhance the killing effect on tumor cells by accelerating DNA damage and producing free radicals. In recent years, strategies have been developed to create highly effective and low toxicity radiosensitizers.

Focused ultrasound mediated blood-brain barrier opening is safe and feasible in a murine pontine glioma model

Zachary K. Englander et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that FUS is a safe and feasible technique for opening the BBB and delivering drugs to the brainstem efficiently without causing significant adverse reactions. Furthermore, FUS can significantly increase drug concentration within the tumor, providing a new direction for the treatment of pontine glioma.
