Selective tandem catalysis for the synthesis of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural from glucose over in-situ phosphated titania catalysts: Insights into structure, bi-functionality and performance in flow microreactors

Wenze Guo et al.

Summary: The synthesis of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from glucose over in-situ phosphated titania catalysts is presented. Phosphates were incorporated into the titania framework forming Lewis-Bronsted acid pairs that enhanced the glucose turnover and HMF selectivity. The catalyst showed high HMF yield in a biphasic system and could be regenerated by calcination after deactivation mainly by humin deposition.

From Biomass to Green Aromatics: Direct Upgrading of Furfural-Ethanol Mixtures

Juan Gancedo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of producing aromatics through gas-phase Diels-Alder condensation using biomass platform molecules, with comparable results to using chemicals or more complex preparation procedures. It emphasizes the advantage of using waste biomass as a raw material to produce industrial high-value products through a renewable route, resulting in a double benefit for the environment.

Efficient oxidative desulfurization over highly dispersed molybdenum oxides supported on mesoporous titanium phosphonates

Lei Chen et al.

Summary: Mesoporous titanium phosphonates (MTP) were synthesized as support for molybdenum oxides in oxidative desulfurization (ODS) reactions. The electron-donating effect of organophosphonate ligands on Mo active sites led to high electron density, improving the efficiency and stability of ODS reactions.

Synthesis of titanium phosphates from unconventional solid precursor and their ion-exchange and electrochemical properties

Summary: A new low-cost and simple synthesis method for titanium phosphate functional materials has been developed, which is based on the unconventional transformation route of solid precursor-sorbent-anode material. The influence of synthesis conditions on titanium phosphate composition has been thoroughly studied, leading to the discovery of optimal conditions for obtaining pure TiHP phase. TiHP exhibits high sorption and electrochemical capabilities, with potential applications in multicomponent liquid radioactive waste treatment and precursor for Li-ion batteries.
