Influence of the insertion of zirconium ion on the catalytic performance of montmorillonite for one-pot cascade conversion of furfural to γ-valerolactone under mild conditions

Peng Zhang et al.

Summary: A series of ultrathin metal intercalated montmorillonite nanosheet materials were prepared and characterized for the one-pot cascade conversion of furfural to obtain gamma-valerolactone. The coordination between the intercalated metal ions and hydroxyl groups leads to increased surface area and pore volume, improving the catalytic performance. The Zr-Mont-0.1 catalyst showed optimal performance with 100% conversion of furfural and 50.4% yield of gamma-valerolactone, and maintained good catalytic performance after multiple uses.

One-Pot Conversion of Furfural to Gamma-Valerolactone over Zr-SBA-15: Cooperation of Lewis and Bronsted Acidic Sites

Zonghui Liu et al.

Summary: A series of bifunctional Zr-SBA-15_x catalysts with isolated Lewis and Bronsted acid sites were prepared and applied to the one-pot conversion of furfural to gamma-valerolactone. The best-performing catalyst was identified as Zr-SBA-15_25, offering a 93.3% selectivity of GVL under optimized reaction conditions. The balance between the Lewis acid sites and the Bronsted acid sites was found to be the key to higher catalytic performance.

High Efficiency Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation of Furfural to Furfuryl Alcohol Over Metallic Oxide Catalyst

Zonghui Liu et al.

Summary: A highly efficient catalytic system based on acidic or basic oxide catalysts was studied for the conversion of furfural to furfuryl alcohol. Acidic Al2O3 was identified as the most effective catalyst, achieving high conversion and selectivity. The catalyst's physical and chemical properties, such as large specific surface area and high acidity, were found to be crucial for its performance.

Preparation of graphitic carbon nitride g-C3N4-HMCM-22 composite catalysts and enhanced para-selectivity in m-xylene isomerization

Zonghui Liu et al.

Summary: A series of novel g-C3N4-HMCM-22 composite catalysts were successfully prepared and characterized. The introduction of g-C3N4 was found to improve the selectivity in m-xylene isomerization, with the G1H1 composite catalyst showing the highest selectivity. The study suggests that increasing the number of Lewis acid sites and inhibiting the external Bronsted acid sites of HMCM-22 are crucial for improving the selectivity.

Influence of metal oxide and heteropoly tungstate location in mesoporous silica towards catalytic transfer hydrogenation of furfural to γ-valerolactone

B. Srinivasa Rao et al.

Summary: The one-pot conversion of furfural to gamma-valerolactone by transfer hydrogenation over bifunctional mesoporous silica catalysts containing Zr and tungstophosphoric acid was successfully achieved. Catalysts with different configurations were prepared and evaluated for their activity, with the catalysts containing ZrO2 inside the SBA-15 pores and TPA dispersed on the support demonstrating the highest activity. The interaction between the hydrogenating alcohol and the acid-base properties of the catalyst, guided by the location of ZrO2 or TPA in the support, played a crucial role in the transfer hydrogenation activity.
