Continuum finite element analyses are performed to ascertain the role played by the volume fraction (V-f) and strain hardening behavior of crystalline reinforcements on the strength and ductility of bulk metallic glass matrix composites (BMGCs). Results show that a highly strain hardening elongated dendrite with V-f similar to 45% would make the BMGC ductile without any penalty on the strength. These results provide design guidelines for strong yet ductile BMGCs. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
