Musculoskeletal injuries in runners have been associated with faulty running mechanics. If left unaddressed, these injuries are likely to become chronic and/or repetitive. Increased hip adduction and vertical impact loading are two of the most common faulty mechanics associated with injury and have been the focus of retraining studies. While these programs have been successful, more work is needed in order to understand the optimal way to retrain gait patterns in runners. In summary, the human body has a considerable ability to adapt and leveraging this ability in order to reduce injury risk is very powerful.
