We report a compact cavity-dumped Q-switched Er:YAG laser that produces pulses with 4.5 ns full width at half-maximum duration and 10 mJ energy. To the best of our knowledge, the resulting 2 MWpeak power is the highest reported to date from a 1645 nm Er: YAG laser. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America
