Glasses of composition (65 - x) V2O5-xBi(2)O(3)-35TeO(2) system (x = 7.5, 10.0, 12.5 and 15.0 mol %) have been successfully prepared by melt quenching technique. The structural properties of these glasses have been investigated by means of FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. Analysis of the deconvoluted peaks in the spectrum of each V2O5-Bi2O3-TeO2 glass indicates that two different networks comprising VO5 units and TeO4 units, coexist in these glasses. The analysis also indicates that bismuth ions have strong modifier effect on these networks. Increased amount of Bi2O3 promotes the conversion of VO5 structural units into VO4 structural units and TeO4 structural units to TeO3+1 structural units having one non-bridging oxygen atom.
