Family and queer temporality among Chinese young gay men: Yes, but not yet

Summary: This research critically examines queer temporality among Chinese young gay men, identifying three forms of queer temporality - strategic delay, optimistic pursuit, and queer passing-time - in relation to the emerging neo-Confucian familism in China. The study argues for a contextual understanding of queer experiences and challenges dichotomous thinking in queer studies by considering the efforts made by marginalized/non-Western communities. It also provides a foundation for theorizing queer temporality from an Asian perspective.

Queering reproductive justice: Framing reproduction of gay men from a transnational perspective-Taiwan as a case

Summary: This article argues that reproductive justice for gay men should be seen within social, legal, and political contexts, using Taiwan as an example. Despite being the first Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage, Taiwan's laws still favor heterosexual couples and deny LGBTQ+ reproductive rights. Taiwanese gay men have to seek third-party reproduction overseas in order to become parents. This article highlights the unequal conditions faced by gay men from a non-Western perspective.

Sexual identities and reproductive orientations: Coming out as wanting (or not wanting) to have children

Summary: The study explores how sexual minorities approach the possibility of parenthood in the context of growing acceptance and visibility of lesbian motherhood and gay fatherhood. It highlights the ambiguity faced by individuals in same-sex relationships regarding societal expectations around having children and argues that 'coming out' as wanting or not wanting children challenges normativity itself. Unlike coming out as LGBT, which transgresses norms surrounding sexuality, coming out as having reproductive orientations challenges expectations around parenthood.
