Traditional Medicare Episode-Related Spending on Postacute Care for Dual-Eligible and Medicare-Only Beneficiaries, 2009-2017

Summary: Dual-eligible beneficiaries with Medicare and Medicaid coverage have higher utilization and spending levels on postacute services compared to Medicare-only beneficiaries, but both populations experienced similar declines over the years. Regardless of dual-eligible status, most types of postacute service use increased during inpatient stays.

Aligning Medicaid and Medicare Advantage Managed Care Plans for Dual-Eligible Beneficiaries

Summary: By requiring insurers who offered Medicaid plans to also offer D-SNPs, Tennessee saw an increase in aligned D-SNP participation among dual-eligible beneficiaries aged 65 years and above. This increase was associated with fewer inpatient admissions, lower prescription drug usage, and reduced nursing home users per 100 dual-eligible beneficiaries aged 65 years and older.
