TrustDL: Use of trust-based dictionary learning to facilitate recommendation in social networks

Navid Khaledian et al.

Summary: Collaborative filtering (CF) is widely used for recommendation tasks. However, it does not solve the cold start and data sparsity issues. To address this, the TrustDL technique integrates trust information from social networks into the recommendation model, improving rating results. It conducts simultaneous dictionary learning and trust embedding to predict unknown ratings. Experiments on four datasets show significant benefits of this approach.

Intrusion Detection System Using Feature Extraction with Machine Learning Algorithms in IoT

Dhiaa Musleh et al.

Summary: With the increasing usage of IoT devices, there is a growing interest in internet security, particularly protecting these vulnerable devices from malicious traffic. Machine learning is considered a promising technique for creating smart intrusion detection systems in the IoT domain. However, in order to apply machine learning models, feature extraction algorithms are needed to extract input from the IoT environment, which greatly affects the detection rate and accuracy. This study evaluates different feature extraction algorithms and machine learning models for IoT IDS using the IEEE Dataport dataset, and reports that VGG-16 combined with stacking achieved the highest accuracy of 98.3%.

Differentiation between multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder using a deep learning model

Jin Myoung Seok et al.

Summary: In this study, a deep learning model was developed to differentiate between multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) using brain MRI data. The model achieved an accuracy of 76.1%, with a sensitivity of 77.3% and a specificity of 74.8%. The application of Grad-CAM revealed that white matter lesions were the major classifier. This compact model could be helpful in the clinical diagnosis of MS and NMOSD.

Summary: This study validates the use of intereye differences (IEDs) in peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) and ganglion cell + inner plexiform (GCIPL) thickness by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) for identifying people with a history of unilateral optic neuritis (ON). Machine learning classification and a composite score combining OCT and visual measures improve the diagnostic capability of SD-OCT for distinguishing people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) from controls. GCIPL IED is the best discriminator of unilateral ON history among PwMS.

Automatic segmentation of gadolinium-enhancing lesions in multiple sclerosis using deep learning from clinical MRI

Sibaji Gaj et al.

Summary: The study developed a fully automated method for segmenting and counting gadolinium-enhancing lesions in multiple sclerosis patients' MRI images, with improved performance on large lesions. The model using bootstrapping loss function showed increased sensitivity and Dice coefficient compared to the model using cross entropy loss. T1 post/pre-contrast and FLAIR were identified as important contrasts for lesion counting.

Korhan Buyukturkoglu et al.

Summary: A model was built to predict cognitive status in early multiple sclerosis patients using neuroimaging data, revealing a non-random brain pattern mostly involving areas related to attentional processes. The high accuracy of the final model supports this pattern as a potential neuroimaging biomarker for subtle cognitive changes in early MS.
