The effects of repeated sprint training with versus without change of direction on measures of physical fitness in youth male soccer players

Yassine Negra et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of repeated sprint training (RST) with and without change of direction (CoD) movements on various fitness characteristics in male youth soccer players. The results showed that both training methods were equally effective in improving repeated sprint ability (RSA), CoD speed, linear sprint speed, and aerobic endurance (AE).

Quantifying the Generality of Strength Adaptation: A Meta-Analysis

Robert W. Spitz et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the effects of isotonic strength training on specific and non-specific strength tests. The results showed that strength increases were observed in both types of tests, but the effect was smaller for non-specific strength.

New Perspectives of the Traditional and Modified 5-0-5 Change of Direction Test

Chloe Ryan et al.

Summary: Change of direction (COD) ability is crucial for success in field and court sports. Existing COD models emphasize technique, leg strength qualities, and straight sprint speed as the main determinants of COD performance. This review focuses on specific leg strength qualities (concentric, eccentric, isometric, and reactive strength) in relation to the 5-0-5 COD test, but it remains unclear which qualities are most important during each phase of COD. A new COD model and a modified 5-0-5 COD test with 4 distinct phases (acceleration, deceleration, 180° turn, and reacceleration) are proposed, providing greater diagnostic value and targeted feedback for improving COD and sports performance.

Effects of Repeated Sprint Training With Progressive Elastic Resistance on Sprint Performance and Anterior-Posterior Force Production in Elite Young Soccer Players

Johan Le Scouarnec et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of repeated sprint training with progressive high elastic resistance on sprint performance and anterior-posterior force production in elite young soccer players. The results showed that the elastic-resisted training led to significant improvements in sprint time, maximal velocity, and maximal power output related to anterior-posterior force.

Plyometric Training Improves Not Only Measures of Linear Speed, Power, and Change-of-Direction Speed But Also Repeated Sprint Ability in Young Female Handball Players

Helmi Chaabene et al.

Summary: The study found that a short-term plyometric training program can effectively improve measures of physical fitness, including linear/CoD speed, jumping, and repeated sprint ability, in young female handball players.
