Recent Advances in Ball-Milling-Based Silicon Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Han Yang et al.

Summary: With its high theoretical capacity density, silicon is considered as one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. While bottom-up methods have been widely used to synthesize silicon-based materials, the top-down ball-milling method is favored by industrial suppliers due to its simplicity and cost-effectiveness. This paper reviews the latest development of ball-milling-based silicon anode materials, compares different materials, and discusses how ball milling can provide greater possibilities for lithium-ion batteries at a larger scale.
