Age Trends in Actigraphy and Self-Report Sleep Across the Life Span: Findings From the Pittsburgh Lifespan Sleep Databank

Meredith L. Wallace et al.

Summary: This study used individual-level cross-sectional data to characterize age trends and sex differences in sleep dimensions across the healthy human life span. It found that sleep onset time and duration varied across different age groups, with differences between sexes also noted.

Physical activity and acute exercise benefit influenza vaccination response: A systematic review with individual participant data meta-analysis

Erika Bohn-Goldbaum et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis examines the potential of acute exercise as a vaccine adjuvant among different populations. The results show that acute-exercised participants have higher antibody responses to the influenza vaccine compared to rested controls and physically active participants. Physical activity significantly increases the seroconversion and titer response of the H1 strain. The study also suggests that age, body mass index, and sex have varying effects on immunogenic responses.

Better Response to Influenza Virus Vaccination in Physically Trained Older Adults Is Associated With Reductions of Cytomegalovirus-Specific Immunoglobulins as Well as Improvements in the Inflammatory and CD8+ T-Cell Profiles

Eduardo S. Felismino et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that regular combined exercise training can improve the specific antibody response to influenza virus vaccination in CMV-seropositive older adults. The improvement in response was associated with an anti-inflammatory status and enhancement of naive CD8(+) T cells, particularly in the group practicing combined exercise training.

Effects of Regular Physical Activity on the Immune System, Vaccination and Risk of Community-Acquired Infectious Disease in the General Population: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Sebastien F. M. Chastin et al.

Summary: Regular physical activity is associated with reduced risk of community-acquired infectious diseases and mortality, enhances the immune system's first line of defense, and improves the efficacy of vaccination.

Psychological and Behavioral Predictors of Vaccine Efficacy: Considerations for COVID-19

Annelise A. Madison et al.

Summary: Psychological factors can impact vaccine responses, with studies showing that stress, depression, loneliness, and poor health behaviors may weaken the immune system's response to vaccines, especially in vulnerable groups like the elderly. Intervention research suggests that psychological and behavioral interventions can increase vaccine efficacy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
