Normal-tension glaucoma is associated with cognitive impairment

Sean Mullany et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) and cognitive impairment, finding that cognitive impairment was more prevalent in the NTG group compared to the high-tension glaucoma (HTG) group. While a linear trend was observed in lower T-MoCA scores in the NTG group compared to the HTG group, the association was not statistically significant.

Apolipoprotein E and Alzheimer's Disease: Findings, Hypotheses, and Potential Mechanisms

Nicole Koutsodendris et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder that is difficult to treat. Recent advancements in imaging technology and experimental techniques have allowed researchers to gain insights into the pathogenic mechanisms of AD. The major genetic risk factor for late-onset AD, apolipoprotein E4 (apoE4), plays a significant role in the initiation and progression of AD, although its exact mechanisms are not fully understood.

The APOE E4 Allele Is Associated with Faster Rates of Neuroretinal Thinning in a Prospective Cohort Study of Suspect and Early Glaucoma

Sean Mullany et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between the APOE E4 dementia-risk allele and prospective longitudinal retinal thinning in suspect and early manifest glaucoma. The results showed that individuals carrying the APOE E4 allele had faster rates of retinal thinning, particularly in eyes affected by normal-tension glaucoma.

Association of Monogenic and Polygenic Risk With the Prevalence of Open-Angle Glaucoma

Owen M. Siggs et al.

Summary: Both monogenic and high polygenic risk are associated with more than a 2.5-fold increased odds of developing glaucoma and have an equivalent mean age at glaucoma diagnosis, with high polygenic risk being more than 15 times more common in the general population.
